ItemAzevedo Amaral e o século do corporativismo, de Michael Manoilesco, no Brasil de Vargas(Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, 2012-12-01) Gomes, Ângela Maria de CastroThis paper aims to follow the process of circulation and appropriation of ideas about the corporatist model of organization of state and society in Brazil in the years 1930/40. To do so, we will use the intellectual production of Azevedo Amaral, who - besides translating for Portuguese the book The century of corporatism by Michael Manoilesco - wrote many others important works, like O Estado autoritário e a realidade nacional, in which he theorized about the application of these ideas in Brazil. ItemO bibliotecário perfeito: o historiador Ramiz Galvão na Biblioteca Nacional(2015-06-26) Caldeira, Ana Paula SampaioIn 1870, the young and virtually unknown Benjamin Franklin Ramiz Galvão was appointed to the position of director of the National Library; he left his position twelve years later, already as a renowned scholar, to become the tutor of the grandchildren of D. Pedro II. During the period in which he was in charge of that institution, Ramiz Galvão planned to make that space the library of the Brazilian nation. That meant creating an institution whose functions were to safeguard the Brazilian documentary heritage, make it available to specialized groups, and encourage studies on the history and geography of the country. The goal was to make the National Library a place of reference, consonant with their European counterparts and in dialogue with the national literate media. In this context, Galvão had a fundamental role in the creation of a network of sociability that linked him to scholars, booksellers, bibliophiles and librarians from different parts of Brazil, America and Europe. This doctoral dissertation evaluates the Ramiz Galvão’s proposal to recast the National Library, trying to associate it with a larger project of construction of the Brazilian nation. For this, three elements considered as the main factors in the process of building a national Library were investigated: 1) the creation of a service routine, which was able to transform a small space with books of the former Royal Library into the most important library in Brazil; 2) the effort of acquiring and selecting a Brazilian documentary heritage, and making it available in publications, such as the Anais da Biblioteca Nacional (Proceedings of the National Library) and the Catálogo da Exposição de História do Brasil (Catalog of the Exhibition of History of Brazil), which are two of his most important works as a director; and 3) the role of Ramiz Galvão as a cultural mediator in the Brazilian literate environment of the late nineteenth century. ItemContemporâneo clássico: a recepção de Pierre Bourdieu no Brasil(CEDEC, 2015-04-01) Bortoluci, José Henrique; Jackson, Luiz C.; Pinheiro Filho, Fernando A.Brazil was one of the first cases of the international reception of Pierre Bourdieu, who is one of the most cited sociologists in the country since the 1990s. This reception is discussed here along two historical lines: the production and consecration of Bourdieu's work in France, and the dynamics of institutionalization of Social Sciences in Brazil. Beginning in the late 1960s, the circulation of Brazilian researchers in France increased considerably, and some of them later became important mediators in the reception of Bourdieu in Brazil. Their trajectories and their roles are analyzed in this article. Initially incorporated as one of the main sources of theoretical and methodological renewal in the Social Sciences during the 1970s and 1980s, Bourdieu would become a primary reference in the 1990s, despite the resistance that his work also faced in Brazil. ItemHistória dos intelectuais no terceiro mundo: reflexões a partir do caso de Guerreiro Ramos(Fundação Getulio Vargas, Escola Brasileira de Administração Pública e de Empresas, 2015-09-01) Maia, João Marcelo EhlertThis article aims to discuss the issue of intellectuals in the Third World through a case study focused on the sociologist Alberto Guerreiro Ramos. It starts from the assumption that the literature on intellectuals is excessively Eurocentric and that it is possible to overcome such a problem by means of an empirical analysis of peripheral intellectuals. The article uses data from a research conducted over 3 years and it focuses on 3 aspects of Ramos' sociological practice: a) the critical dialogue with theories produced in the Northern Hemisphere; b) his writing style; c) his search for intellectual autonomy. Data are analyzed in the light of the literature produced by historians and sociologists about intellectuals. It is concluded that studies on peripheral intellectuals demonstrate a relation between ideas and public life different from that found in the core countries. ItemA nação faz 100 anos: a questão nacional no centenário da independência(1992) Motta, Marly Silva da ItemRevista do Patrimônio: editor, autores e temas(2010-08-26) Silva, Cíntia Mayumi de CarliThis work investigates the trajectory of the Revista do Patrimônio (heritage magazine), the main publication of the National Service for Historical and Artistical Heritage – Sphan, between the period from 1937 to 1967. That period corresponds to the management of the first Sphan director, Rodrigo de Melo Franco de Andrade. Edited since 1937, the publication gathered a group of intellectuals that have built the field of heritage in Brazil, having as protagonist the Sphan itself. Therefore, the Revista do Patrimônio is taken as object and, simultaneously, as a fundamental source for this research, considering it as social a place for those intellectuals that have collaborated to the preservation of the heritage. In that manner, Rodrigo M. F. de Andrade, that was also the editor of Sphan publications, is taken as the developer of the networks built around the Revista do Patrimônio, which contributed for the constitution of the heritage field, which could promote itself through this publication. ItemO teatro de Viriato Corrêa: uma escrita da História para o povo brasileiro(2012-08-24) Cavalcante, Vanessa MatheusThe present study aims to analyze the role of intellectuals regarded as cultural mediators, ie, those that aim to disseminate historical knowledge to the general public. To do this we chose as the object of study the intellectual Viriato Corrêa (1884-1967), which we believe is exemplary in this kind of intellectual activity. More specifically, we try to stick to their plays, written between the 1910s and 1940s, which, like the rest of his work, are marked by an intense appreciation of the national discourse. We must remember that the period in question is strategic in relation to the construction of a Republican national identity. Thus, we will seek to demonstrate how the writer has contributed and been engaged in the project of constructing a national history and memory through its theatrical productions, using them as vectors for spreading a cultural history of civic-patriotic slant.
