With this research, we aim to study the relationship between interpretation and the structuration and institutionalization processes of the Management and Business Graduate Schools in Curitiba, according to their academic directors’ point of view. We try to identify the most relevant contextual factors and to analyze their relationship with those processes. The methodology had a qualitative approach, with special emphasis in ethnographic and descriptive methods. The research design and strategy was case study, and used multiples sources of evidence. The level of analysis was organizational and unity of analysis was the members of the organizations. As primary sources: observation and semi-structured interviews. The interviewees (18 – eighteen academic directors) were selected according to theoretical criteria. As secondary sources: internal and external documents, artifacts, signs, symbols and other elements, that let us to know the history, culture, situation and interpretation about the structuration and institutionalization processes of those courses and schools. The data were worked through descriptive analysis, documental analysis and content analysis (thematic categorical analysis). Conclusions: the structuration process of those Business Schools in Curitiba did change after 1996 (number and types of Schools; logics of action; values, beliefs, interests; other aspects). This suggests National Educational Basis and Directions Act - LDB (law edited in 1996) is an important factor related to this process, notwithstanding the institutionalization and structuration processes have their origins and basis on previous facts and situations. The institutional contextual forces, nor the market, nor the individual choices, solely, are exclusively determinatives to those processes. To study other factors, besides legal ones, can bring more powerful explanative theoretic propositions to the efforts to understand those processes, as well as, to study the structural and interpretative elements conjugated with the positioning and configuration of those elements and actors in the practices and actual situations. We suggest the institutionalization process of business and management schools in Curitiba has its roots in the Schools of Commerce from XX Century beginning.
