Resumo

This research investigates how environmental and digital communication enables Citizen Data Generation in the production of the Climate Disaster Report for the 2024 Amazonian winter, prepared by the Marajó Observatory, which involved the participation of ribeirinhos an quilombola leaders from 17 municipalities on Marajó Island, in the state of Pará. This case study analyzes documents and semi-structured interviews and mapped environmental and digital communication strategies applied by the Marajó Observatory, identifying the potential and challenges of data culture in Amazonian contexts. The results of this work show how environmental and digital communication, when combined with traditional knowledge adapted to digital infrastructures, are important tools for the collaborative production of climate data and understanding the characteristics of the Amazonian territory. This research contributes to filling a research gap in studies of environmental and digital communication and data culture in the Amazon and may inspire other organizations working toward the same goals as the Marajó Observatory.
