The aim of this paper was to spot the main needs and prob1ems first-grade college students have in faculties of Bio-Medical, Technological and Social Sciences, in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, as well as to identify the kind of Guidance Service (both personal counselini and academic guidance) which most adapts itself to the treeds and prob1ems. The samp1e counted 318 first grade students at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, according the fo11owing distribution: 161 Engeneering Students; 120 MedicaI Science Students and 37 Education Students
