Resumo
The purpose of this descriptive-explicative study is to demonstrate the principal difficulties confronted by the current Brazilian Public Security System and its agencies to diminish the rates of crime and violence in the country. For this purpose, the Brazilian Army was examined as a possible subsystem of the public security system, broaching aspects of the Ground Force's functional and operational structure which may be employed in support of the existing police agencies in their combat against crime. The study concludes with the presentation ofthe possible sectors in the area ofpublic security in which the Brazilian Army could act without detriment to its constitutional obligations.
