The presente study consists of a data analysis related to science tests applied to students of fourth grade of the elementary school, second and fourth grades of the junior highschool and of the terminal secondary school grade, from public and private schools, belonging to two Latin Arnerican countries, Brazil and Argentina. Our aim was to examine how differente cognitive abilities defined according to the B.S.Bloom taxonomy, are distributed in different social leveIs. We had assumed that they are unevenly distributed and that the more complex abilities as under standing, concept application and reasoningfuigher processes are further affected by socio-economic and cultural factors in con trast with memorizing processes.
