This paper is the result of a first approach to the reception of positivist criminology in Brazil while exploring the use of the terms 'criminal' and 'delinquent', the paper’s goal is to present some of the work of Raimundo Nina Rodrigues and to highlight its relevance to analysis of the contemporary Brazilian criminal system.
