The workplace is changing. The use of digital technologies is reshaping and decentralizing the traditional office. This thesis deals with an emerging phenomenon: the digital workplace. The research in the field indicates that with the advancement of technology there are opportunities for important changes in the place where work is done, and these changes can bring significant benefits for companies and employees. The digital workplace is an organizational asset that needs to have a clear planning and management strategy to affect productivity, engagement, and organizational performance positively. The purpose of this case study was to better understand the phenomenon and discover how a large organization in the technology industry implemented the digital workplace to respond to competitive and workforce pressures. The results revealed that implementing a digital workplace is a complex phenomenon, and to explain it we need to go beyond the focus on technology. The main findings highlighted four implications arising from the phenomenon. First, the physical environment remains relevant, but it undergoes significant changes, and the space is optimized. Second, there is the component of intergenerational adaptation differences that needs to be considered. Third, it is necessary to develop new leadership skills to be effective in the digital environment. Fourth, there are cultural aspects to manage. In addition, the digital workplace generates negative effects that must be understood to achieve better results. Based on fieldwork, this study contributes to the theory of the digital workplace by demonstrating the model observed to explain the phenomenon. Moreover, the main practical contribution was the presentation of the critical success factors for the implementation of the digital workplace. The successful transformation of the case serves as an example and provides insights to organizations undergoing a similar change.
