Purpose – This study aims to understand how the use of generative artificial intelligence-based software can impact the amount of time dedicated to extracurricular activities by teachers in the municipal public schools of Rio de Janeiro, as well as to investigate the effects of this change on students' learning processes. Design/Methodology - For this purpose, the EducAI platform was developed using the Design Science Research approach and applied with six teachers over five months, involving the collection and analysis of usage logs and qualitative interviews. Findings – EducAI demonstrated concrete potential to automate bureaucratic tasks, reducing the time spent preparing reports, assessments, and lesson plans. The participants reported greater availability for pedagogical planning and student interaction, although the effects on student performance are still perceived indirectly. The main limitations refer to the technological infrastructure of public schools and the lack of continuous training policies, in addition to the restriction of the software's use to planning and material creation, without direct student participation. Practical implications - The research shows that generative AI can enhance teaching work, optimize time, and foster personalized pedagogical practices, indicating pathways for educational modernization policies. The study contributes by highlighting ways to reduce teachers' workload, improve the quality of education, and support evidence-based practices in the public sector.
