This paper analyzes the macroeconomic evolution of the Brazilian economy during the 1964 -1985 period which was characterized by military governments. The usual criticisms related to the deterioration of income distribution, the proliferation of estate enterprises, as well as the non-endowent of the country with an independent Central Bank are mentioned in the initial sections. The control of inflation in 1964-66 through the well succeeded PAEG pia0 is also studied. Later sections analyze the evolution of macroeconomic polices and present data of the inflationary tax and inflationary transfers to commercial banks during these years.
