| dc.description.abstract | In this article, I test the proposition of Kondor (2012) that the presence of investors with different investment horizons causes second-order disagreements. This disagreement allows for trading volume to occur after public announcements, even if there is a reduction in disagreement about the fundamental value of the firm. Measuring horizon by the turnover rate of investment fund portfolios and considering quarterly earnings reports as public announcements, I conclude that having an average investor with a turnover rate among the bottom 20% reduces the effect of the announcement on trading volume by 5.4%. The more unexpected an announcement is, the more homogeneous the reaction of different types of investors. When looking at price volatility, the effect of the announcement on volatility goes from 11% to 0% if the firm’s investors have a long horizon. Finally, firms with medium- and short-term investors have increasing volatility with how unexpected the announcement was. | eng |
