Resumo
Internet banking has had a fast evolution pace in the last years. In 1996 only a few pioneers took the risk to launch services through the Web, but nowadays millions of users all over the world push Internet banking to be one of the most successful applications at the electronic commerce arena. However, Internet banking fast growth do not occur in the same way in the whole banking market. Two factors have influenced bank investments in on-line services through the Web: bank size and market orientation retail or wholesale of the services offered. This study shows that bigger banks and retail services are in higher stages of Internet banking, although smaller banks and wholesale services have evolved to interesting initiatives of Internet use.
