Resumo
Since the end of the 70's, it has been proposed by planners and academics alike, that Planning for Urban Development trough Public Policies should incorporate in its agenda the issue of gender if the intention of this planning tradition is to attend the different needs of the population. This is a consequence of the evolution of the concept of development itself. It has been argued that the population is not homogeneous. Women and men have different roles (which are the result of gender relations) and derived from those, different needs. Gender should then be an integral part of public policies. So, this research intends to examine the incorporation of gender in the elaboration of Public Policies for urban areas. This is going to be done through a comparative analysis of public policies both from Brazil and other countries.
