Resumo
This research examines the not so clear an explicit relations between competitiveness and technologic innovation, starting from the conceptual framework. Four case studies, focusing three Brazilian companies and one multinational were analyzed, covering Industrial and service sectors. Among the conclusions, the study stresses that competitiveness is a result of tree dimensions combined: technology, management (i.e., business strategy) and people. An intimate connection between technologic innovation and market share gains was identified. The study concludes that competitiveness based on technology, although very important, is ephemeral: the preservation of the competitive advantage is a dynamic process, which requires continuous efforts of innovation, including permanent monitoring of the market and the competitors. Another investigated issue is the inherent risk associated to innovation, since the pioneer doesn t find always the dominant solutions. Finally, the decision process towards technological investments, exploring non quantitative models as a subside for analyzing and prioritizing innovative projects.
