This study analyzed the effect of political connections in the board of directors on the performance post acquisition in Brazil. Prior studies already identified this relation showing positive to neutral effects on performance, frequency and size of deals (BROCKMAN; RUI; ZOU, 2013; LIU; WANG; ZHANG, 2013). This study aims to extend this analysis to Brazilian companies, including information regarding the type of connection in the model to evaluate different impacts. This study focused on listed acquiring companies in BM&FBvespa from 1999 to 2014 using propensity score matching models and panel data. The analysis of resumes from the members of the board allow the study of different connections such as state owned developmental financial institutions and regulatory agencies, going beyond the traditional definition of political connection (FACCIO, 2006). The results pointed towards a strong association between connections with regulatory agencies and performance on post deal performance of the acquirer. It also pointed towards a partial association on the connection with public and development banks. The effect of the traditional types of political connection could not be found
