In many societies, women suffer endemic and substantial gaps in the division of domestic work, access to educational and economic opportunities, as well as political and legal barriers to positions of power. The role of the State is extremely relevant in the pursuit of gender equality rights. Countries that have public policies to prevent sexual discrimination, that promote equal pay, grant maternity and paternity leave, guarantee access to quality education for both genders, and adopt quotas for women in leadership positions have helped to reduce the so-called " gender gap" and reinforced the importance of equal rights. In this context, this research analyzes the political movement that led several countries, especially European ones, to introduce gender equality policies, more specifically quota policies for women on boards of directors of companies, and also what results were observed after the adoption of such policies. The work uses as a source of research the law, the doctrine and the national and foreign jurisprudence; analyzes academic works inside and outside the legal scope, national and foreign, especially due to the fact that, in Brazil, there is little material or study in law on the subject. The research is based on the collection, storage and analysis of data from European countries that pioneered the introduction of quota policies for women on Boards of Directors; studies the reports generated by organizations/institutions that mapped gender equality policies in companies, indicating the practical results observed in an attempt to suggest possible ways for Brazil to promote gender equality policies in the corporate environment. This research was also developed by observing the experience lived by women in work spaces, against the backdrop of legal theories developed by the Feminist Theory of Law (TFD).
