The Brazilian privatization program of the 90's is becoming one of the largest ones in the world and marks the end of the developmentist State in the country. Which have been the main characteristics of this process and in which way does it differ from the other countries privatization programs. The privatization of the main Brazilian state companies, both in the production and in the service sectors, introduced important changes in how Brazilian economy works. The main objective of this work is to analyze the Brazilian privatization process, comparing it to other privatization programs carried out in the last 20 years, in order to point out the particularities of each process and their consequences. We will be questioning in which way these process reorganize the 'tripod' state, brazilian and foreign companies. Which are the consequences of replacing state monopolies by foreign monopolies in terms of prices, productivity and service level?
