Resumo
Operating results of the companies are impacted by the macroeconomic environment. Successfully predicting future results is a purpose of all the companies´ stakeholders. The understanding of the relationship between the accounting and macroeconomic variables is a powerful instrument used to form expectations about results and performance. In the present study, five large retail companies with activities restricted to the domestic market were selected with the objective of testing an econometric model capable of predicting future sales. Taking into account that the five retailers are very different concerning the kind of product sold, the results were satisfactory, proving that macroeconomic variables don´t have the same influence over them
