Resumo
This study analyzes the legal regulation of freight and passenger interstate waterway transport in Brazil, addressing issues related to planning, implementation, regulation and supervision of the sector. It discusses the legal concept of waterway and waterway transport, the institutional history of the sector, general data about the modal, as well as its costs. To better explore the theme, the paper presents a case study of the Solimões-Amazonas waterway. Also, the institutionality and the public policies directed to the sector are analyzed, outlining some critical considerations
