O povo indígena Yanomami e a sua luta contra a vulnerabilidade

Abstract

Objetivo: O objetivo geral da tese foi avaliar os fatores que contribuem para a vulnerabilidade dos Yanomami. Os objetivos específicos incluíram a análise dos fatores de insegurança alimentar e desnutrição, a avaliação do saneamento básico e a descrição de como o garimpo ilegal tem afetado a qualidade de vida dos Yanomami. Metodologia: Nesta pesquisa foram coletados dados primários por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com especialistas e servidores experientes com povos indígenas e coleta de dados secundários por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica e clipping de notícias sobre o tema. Ambos os dados foram analisados e classificados conforme técnica da análise de conteúdo. Resultados: Os resultados da pesquisa destacaram a grave crise humanitária e sanitária que os Yanomami enfrentam. O garimpo ilegal e a contaminação hídrica por mercúrio, junto com a disseminação de doenças como a malária e a Covid-19, foram identificados como principais fatores que exacerbam sua vulnerabilidade. Além disso, a presença de grupos criminosos, como o Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), na região, amplifica a gravidade da situação. Contribuições práticas: A tese oferece contribuições significativas ao aumentar a consciência pública sobre a situação dos Yanomami, incentivando discussões sobre a proteção dos direitos indígenas e estimulando ações de defesa dessas comunidades. Além disso, fornece um ponto de partida valioso para pesquisas futuras e para o desenvolvimento de políticas públicas eficazes para a proteção dos povos indígenas no Brasil. Contribuições sociais: A pesquisa conclui que, embora as medidas governamentais existentes sejam passos na direção correta, elas são insuficientes. É urgente a necessidade de ações mais robustas para proteger a Terra Yanomami e garantir a saúde, a segurança e o bem-estar dos indígenas. Isso requer fortalecer a fiscalização e o controle das atividades ilegais, garantir o acesso a cuidados médicos adequados, promover a segurança das comunidades indígenas e buscar soluções sustentáveis que preservem o meio ambiente e a cultura dos Yanomami. Originalidade: O estudo contextualiza a situação dos Yanomami dentro do quadro mais amplo de crises sanitárias e humanitárias enfrentadas por povos indígenas em todo o mundo, destacando a necessidade de uma compreensão e ações mais profundas para proteger essas comunidades vulneráveis. A pesquisa se justifica pela constante exposição dos Yanomami a condições que ameaçam sua saúde, segurança e modo de vida tradicional.

Purpose: The general objective of the thesis was to evaluate the factors that contribute to the vulnerability of the Yanomami. Specific objectives included the analysis of the factors of food insecurity and malnutrition, the evaluation of basic sanitation and the description of how illegal mining has affected the quality of life of the Yanomami. Methodology: In this research, primary data were collected through semi-structured interviews with experts and servers with experience with indigenous peoples and also secondary data collection through bibliographic research and news clipping on the subject. Both data were analyzed and classified according to the content analysis technique. Findings: The survey results highlighted the serious humanitarian and health crisis facing the Yanomami face. Illegal mining and mercury water contamination, along with the spread of diseases such as malaria and Covid-19, have been identified as major factors exacerbating their vulnerability. In addition, the presence of criminal groups, such as the First Capital Command (PCC), in the region, amplifies the gravity of the situation. Practical implications: The thesis offers significant contributions by raising public awareness of the situation of the Yanomami, encouraging discussions on the protection of indigenous rights and stimulating actions to defend these communities. In addition, it provides a valuable starting point for future research and for the development of effective public policies for the protection of indigenous peoples in Brazil. Social implications: The research concludes that while existing government measures are steps in the right direction, they are insufficient. There is an urgent need for more robust action to protect the Yanomami Land and ensure the health, safety and well-being of indigenous peoples. This requires strengthening oversight and control of illegal activities, ensuring access to adequate medical care, promoting the safety of indigenous communities, and seeking sustainable solutions that preserve the environment and culture of the Yanomami. Originality: The study contextualizes the situation of the Yanomami within the broader framework of health and humanitarian crises faced by indigenous peoples around the world, highlighting the need for deeper understanding and action to protect these vulnerable communities. The research is justified by the constant exposure of the Yanomami to conditions that threaten their health, safety and traditional way of life.
