Good institutional frameworks lead to the most solid and sustainable socio-economic development processes in the nations and, in this sense, the governance structures between the various institutions of state and government play a fundamental role. In this line, this study investigates the impacts of governmental interventions related to the institutional governance structure on the electricity distribution companies in Brazil. In order to do so, we used indicators of financial and operational performance of companies and events related to relevant changes in sector governance since 2000. The evidence found indicates that such events did affect the performance of the sector.
