This research developed and applied a procedure to evaluate Information Systems investments effectiveness at firm level based on the Model for Analysis of Information Technology Investments Effectiveness - MAITIF , as originally proposed the Proceedings of the Tenth Americas Conference on Information Systems - AMCIS, New York (SANCHEZ and ALBERTIN, 2004). The fundamental contribution of MAITIF consists on the conceptualization of the frame of economics principles involved in generating business potential value when investing in Information Systems and Technology. The underpinning Ex-ante Inefficiency Economic Hypothesis – EEIH indicates how economic value can be generated if, and only if, previous economic inefficiencies are present in the business situations in which systems or technology are applied in the expectancy of solving them. The research verified the EEIH hypothesis by conducting a multiple incorporated case study in three of the major financial institutions in Brazil. As result, the economic concepts involved in the frame of analysis were validated leading, as consequence, that organizations can conduct analysis of investments on information systems to assess the potential of value to be delivered to businesses, by identifying the situations where economic previous inefficiencies are present, prior the actual investment and reducing their risks.
