Resumo
This article aims to assess the major challenges faced by inclusive education in Brazil. It briefly explores special needs education policies and achievements along time – from an exclusive to an education-for-all model. It sheds light into the role played by communication, interaction and the integration of National Education Plans as well as into hardships faced by educators to overcome barriers and address special needs. It discusses the importance of suitable methodologies, adaptable curricula and syllabuses, and information, communication and assistive tools and technologies through a literature review and experience report methodology. The conclusion points to the critical need to implement new policies and to clearly assess and use differences as springboards to inclusive education in a fairer society.
