The main idea of this working is to understand the ideological influence of both Executive (GOVI) and Legislative (LEGI) branches of government on the subnational government expenditures (states) in Brazil between 1987 and 1998. Our results show that the participation of total expenditure as part as the Current Revenues was influenced only by economic variables but the specific expenditures were influenced by both political and economic variables. The ideological influences arising from LEGI was more visibly on the choice of specific expenditures than the influence arising from GOVI. We tested whether this type of influence could be perceived on the expenditures of the other subnational powers (the Judiciary as well as the Legislative) and on both the richest states and the poorest states. We used the panel technique to get our results.
