Resumo
This work aims to contribute to the manufacturing strategy field trough the development of a conceptual franework. It consists of a manufacturing strategy management system based on an identification process of novel performance measures related to the business units and company strategy. In order to achieve such a contribution, it has been conducted an exploratory study of competitive strategy in companies within the machine tools sector. The study was not only carried out to characterise the company strategies but also to analyse the convergence between them and the performance measures currently adopted by the companies. The empirical approach also contributed to the fomulation of the proposed model as well as to the appraisal ofits potential ofuse.
