This thesis examines Brazil’s strategic positioning within the evolving global energy landscape, analyzing how the country navigates energy security, economic competitiveness, and sustainability amid shifting geopolitical and geoeconomic dynamics. Through a geoeconomic lens, the study assesses Brazil’s energy capabilities, exploring its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the sector. The research highlights Brazil’s extensive renewable energy potential, particularly in biofuels, hydropower, wind and solar while addressing systemic vulnerabilities, such as reliance on thermoelectric subsidies and infrastructure limitations. Additionally, the study explores Brazil’s foreign policy approach to energy, emphasizing the country’s regional leadership aspirations and the challenges of integrating its energy network with South America. The findings suggest that while Brazil holds substantial influence as an emerging energy power, maximizing its role requires balancing domestic priorities, fostering regional cooperation, and reinforcing its position in the global energy transition.
