In this work, the main objective was to research the behavior of the Brazilian companies in the field of cost and capital structure. A search of the theories that best describes this behavior have been done, trying to show the relationship between the management's practice and what we teach in the schools. The main result is that a great part of the Brazilian enterprises seek for opportunities when looking for capital structure, a theory not developed in textbooks.
