Resumo
The evaluation and measurement of the Human Resource Management area has been a very present theme in the North American literature (Fitz-Enz, 1990; Ulrich, 1997; Becker, Huselid e Ulrich, 2001). Their proposals differ in terms of the function s conceptualization and in terms of the elements to be measured. These differences reflect, to a great extent, the different approaches to the role assigned to the Human Resource Management area. Pfeffer (1997) argues, however, that these proposals do not account for the full impact of the functions actions. Taking this into consideration and given that there are very few studies in this area in Brazil, this project reviews and analyzes the methods proposed for the evaluation and measurement of the Human Resource Management area.
