There is a strong autoregressive component on the level of credit in the Brazilian economy. Bank´s policy of lending is the most relevant variable to determine de level of credit in Brazil. Variables in government control, such as basic interest rate and deposits, have small impact on the credit level. In Brazil there is has a great proportion of credit that is not related to supply and demand forces. Although those resources are positive in making public policies, they have the negative effects such as: (i) a increase on the rate of the remaining operations; (ii) they represent a barrier in building a long term market of loans in Brazil; and (iii) they affect monetary policy, making it more inertial.
