Resumo
This essay is about the relationship of the community of Santa Rita do Sapucaí (MG) with the teaching and research institutions in the field of electronics and with the companies that make advanced technology industrial products that were installed in the city in the 80·s. Until then, agriculture was the only productive activity of the city of Santa Rita do Sapucaí. The objective of this case study is to check the changes that can happen in the rural community with the installation of a technological district nearby. For this we have used a criticaI analysis of modernization theory. according to the broad industrialization policies of the State, and of the dual vision of the Brazilian society. We have also analysed the way the new technology is introduced in the country and its implications on the relationship between city and countryside.
