Approximately 90% of the variability in the density of supermarket floor space at the micro-regions of São Paulo state can be explained by the income density in the micro-regions, when spatial autocorrelation present in both variables is taken into account. In this report, the concept of spatial autocorrelation is presented, a measurement for its intensity is suggested (Geary's Ratio) and a strategy for its removal is studied.
