The study tries to identify the cultural influence on the gap between the speech in Total Quality Management (GQT) programs and the management practices in a Case Superior Learning Institution (lESe), since apparently there was an incongruence between values verbally expressed by the administration, shared among the group of collaborators and the practices observed in the organization. That is, the logic in management practices articulation that was incompatible with the logic of values verbally expressed. lf we believe, like Geertz (1989), that the cultural phenomenon analysis must be based on the observation of behavior flow, in which each action is seen as a symbolic action, it is important to analyze fundamentally, this actions in its context to understand its meaning, and then reach for an explanation for the fact of this practices being incongruent with the speech To do so, observations, interviews and questionnaires were used, what enabled verify that its relation with the environment legitimated management practices convergent with the Brazilian management style, making it possible to confirm the cultural influence on the gap between the speech adopted by the IESC and its management practices.
