Resumo
This paper analyses the adjustrnent of the tertiary subsectors in the metropolitan São Paulo area (RMSP) to employment policies. There is a trade-off betweenjob creation and its quality. Therefore, the model - presented in the first section - takes into account both dimensions. Job quality is a functíon of average earnings, scbooling degree, formality rate and the pennanence on the employment. The second section presents the data related to 1997, whose source is the PED - Employment and Unemployment Research - jointly elaborated for SEADE Foundation and DIEESE. The following section describes the statistical procedure. The results to each branch are analysed in the fourth section. Finally, the tertiary sector of the RMSP is divided into three groups: high, medium and low adjustment to employment policies.
