This article is based on psychodynamics of work in order to offer a critical presentation of the work of community agents as part of the Family Health Program. This program, recently developed in Brazil, tries to extend to the national territory the access to Public Health System, but above all it tries to build local relationships between communities. These agents are integrated into health teams that bring together, in a minimal structure, doctors, nurses and health assistants. They play a strategic part in the team by deve- loping connections between health system and communities. That's why they assume series of tasks and expose themselves to encounter risky situations. They are in contact with people in social disadvan- tage situations, confronted to problems of violence, and these people also miss a structured system that could provide for their needs. The study of the working of these agents is still as 'terra incognita': at one time it represents a source of suffering and at the same time it brings up opportunities of self accomplishment. This article shows an intervention in psychodynamics of work according to the subjective experience of meaning and understanding the reality of this kind of profession.
