The aim of this work was to identify the existence of asymmetric commercial relations between the players of the meat market, which means: producers, slaughter houses and retailers. The investigation was about two sources of asymmetry: differences concerned to information between the players in the brazilian live cattle futures market at BM&F, and the possibility of market power in the commercial relation in the meat market. The market power was conducted by the analytical structure of Crespi, Gao e Peterson (2005), which allows to conclude by the existence of buyer power of the live cattle by the slaughter houses, this conclusion is similar to other industrial organizations, which structure has many producers who have to sell their production in his local market. A complementary study was driven to investigate which region of the country was the builder, in terms of price formation, and the conclusion was that São Paulo is the place. The commercial relation between slaughter house and retailers used the momentum threshold autoregression models (M-TAR) and conclude that this relation was asymmetric, in the way that the retailers do not transfer to consumers the reduces in the price of the bovine meat, but transfer the increases in the price. So it’s possible to conclude that the retailers have some bargain power, this result was expected because the retailers are the main distribution channel. And finally was investigate the existence of information asymmetries between the players of the brazilian live cattle futures market, which was conducted by the analysis of the relation between the price volatility and the net position of the participants. The conclusion was that the slaughter house have more information in this place.
