Resumo
This research is divided in two parts, which will be published separately. Its main objective is to speculate how economic theory could tell us the story of Macunaíma. In the first section, which corresponds to this paper, we critically analyze the traditional interpretation of Robinson Crusoe in economics. Secondly, we are going to make an overview of the main critical literary approaches of Macunaíma. In the second section (Part), which represents our next research, we are going to locate Macunaíma s trajectory to illustrate the meaning of economic rationality, showing that when it is absent as like as in Macunaíma s story the consequences in economic terms are considerable.
