The objective of this dissertation was to verify the influence of the corruption in the tax of growth of the product, investments, total expenses and specific expenses of the state governments in Brazil. As we did not have an index of perception of the corruption as Mauro (1996) had to catch these influences between countries, and Mauro (1998) and Van Rijckeghem and Weder (1997) already had demonstrated that the variable that more good explained this index was the relation of wages between the public and private sector, we use this relation as changeable for proxy of corruption for state. This type of variable possible us to see the corruption in different levels: difference in the average, median, worse 25% (less qualified) and better 25% (more qualified). We did not get any strong evidence of the influence of the corruption on the tax of growth of the product or on the level of public investment, but we find it in some specific expenses. Our stronger results had been found when it had a reduction of the wages, what it would indicate an increase in the corruption, took to an expansion of the expenses with assistance and providence and to a reduction in the expenses with Administration and Planning.
