Resumo
Since the transport sector is responsible for the large share of CO2 emissions in Brazil, transport electrification appears as an alternative to comply with climate agreements. In this context, consideration must be given to environmental and economic issues related to electric vehicles development, as well as their role in the ongoing transformations in the energy and urban transportation sectors. It is possible to observe the enormous potential of the electric vehicles (EVs) to reduce CO2 emissions in countries with an energy matrix composed mainly by clean sources (ex: Brazil). Despite lower operating costs, EVs still have a higher total cost than internal combustion vehicles. Therefore, VEs are more competitive in ride splitting and mobility-as-a-service systems. Finally, it finds the VEs as fundamental to the ongoing transformation in the electricity sector the potential to optimize the use of intermittent renewable energy sources.
