This short study is an update to previous findings looking at works by Brazilian living artists auctioned at Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Phillips de Pury. It is a descriptive analysis showing the evolution and success of sales year-by year and comparing results for different locations (London and New York), auction houses and sale types (contemporary evening, Latin American and other contemporary art sales). In addition, the study identifies the top artists in this cohort and their share of sales in the market. Conclusions: the international auction market for Brazilian
contemporary artists does not seem to differ from the global art market in terms of trends and concentration on a few top artists; few of these artists make it to the most important evening sales and the niche of Latin American art sales are being abandoned; auction houses and location of sales alternate in importance depending on sale value and number of sales.
